Pod racing test for Heat
« on: June 02, 2012, 01:04:38 PM »
Hi Heat (and everyone else)

As requested from your friendly neighbourhood Rotary Gaming people a Pod racing engine proof of concept
You have 3 choices now
1) Wait till we've finished other ongoing projects (about 3 years ;))
2) Take it on yourself
3) pretend this never happened  ;D

In the event of option 3 anyone else is welcome to the 3dr file for their own modification/continuation - ther is nothing here that isn't documented in the Rad help or on the forum, its just put together in the right order  :D

What's in there - 2 engine pods linked but independantly floating, towing a floating control pod via springs with a stretchy skinmesh tether and a smooth caramel centre

Any comments welcome, good or bad - its the only way to learn  ;D

Whoops, I'm sorry. I read this at school and I can't play them there, so topic was already marked as 'read'.

But I have not much to tell. It looks funny. Nothing bad.  ;)

I wasn't expecting much roberto, it just seems awfully quiet around here at the minute, has everyone moved over to the other forum?

Thanks!  :) Only problem is I can't open .rar files, can you .zip the file.

-I would develop the game myself but I'll need to buy a new pc, my 3drad one died. (low on funds for a pc= delay.)
-so sure I'll wait for your team to develop it.
-But I will work on concept art, concept track designs ect.

I can still model buildings and other objects for the game.
-In fact I just modeled a mos eisly: small starship garage. http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=930a9374f51dbea61fa8064effca89b7&prevstart=0

I don't want to give up on pod racing, the only barrier I see is getting george lucas permission other wise this game will just be a hobbie. :D

I guess I'll test the game if you zip the complied project, and I'll post my concepts here. :)

No problem heat, I was just had to do it after Grim mentioned your request, I love all things sw (except that binks thing). The zip will have to wait till the weekend, or i'm sure you can download some freeware to do it
i'm afraid its in the queue behind ufo, river raid and not to forget grimball (its still on the back burner)... But the reason we're not rushing them is we need to learn more, so if you want to do all the art, concepts etc it'll be good practice for my scripting - I think me and grim are heading back to our background strengths for future (him art, me programming) as we decided it would be fun to leave our comfort zones when we started

so design away...another community project if you're up for it!

...and i'm sure george won't mind as long as we call it dop racing ;)

sorry cyper... just had a chance to look at your proof of concept pod racer...

verrry nice... (i especially like the steam exhaust and sound when you shut down the motors... nice touch)...

maybe a lil more of an electric effect for that thing that joins em together (and some refinement of the models)... but otherwise, i think you've got it...

i don't think anyone else here has tried a pod racer...

Cheers mike, I think I honestly didn't think anyone would get as far as shutting down the engines ;) I don't mean to steal your heat before you've finished your project together, i've got all the time in the world for this, no rush

bit harsh Borek, but the texture does need some work (i know...i'm not one to talk about harsh!)

keep it up heat, need the full concept from you and what you want the racer to do, I quite fancy land speeders and speeder bikes for a bit of variety (and atst's if I can work out bone animations :) ) but plenty of time to learn new stuff

Give me a break It's a background building, and when your driving a pod racer at 700 MPH you don't notice things like that. :P
quite harsh, I know the texture needs some work but at least I made the texture. ;D ;D ;D
