Description
Turn 3DRAD into an instant flight simulator with the Light Airplane Addon!
Minimum requirements
3D Rad v6.48
Features
A replica of the popular Cessna 182 Skylane light airplane, you're just a few mouse clicks away from jumping aboard and taking off for a flight around any 3DRAD based scenery.
The Light Airplane Addon provides 3DRAD game developers with the ability to quickly and easily add a fully functional, ready to fly airplane to their 3DRAD project.
Developers can use the Light Airplane Addon as part of their own 3DRAD developed flight simulator and make the entire package available to others to enjoy.
Realistic in appearance to the a Cessna Skylane 182 light airplane, the Light Airplane Addon comes with working flaps, flight controls, doors, lighting, and allows you to enter the aircraft and fly it as you would a real light plane.
Realistic controls and performance all add to the light plane flying experience that you can now add to your 3DRAD projects.
No additional royalties required.
Usage
After installation, in 3D Rad, you can access the addon by pressing Ctrl+D.
Simply select Project/Addons from the 3DRAD Editor menu, then select LightAirplane_mkx from the Aircraft folder.
Once the addon is loaded into your project, select the LightAirplane Group object and place the aircraft wherever you want in your scenery
(your scenery should ideally already contain at least one terrain and a skybox).
Be sure to position the aircraft so that the landing gear wheels are close to the ground, as the plane will automatically fall to earth as your simulation starts, and may crash and burn if it has too far to fall before coming to rest.
Next, link the following objects in the following order (important)
1- FIRST Link the RIGIDBODY, RIGHT WHEEL, LEFT WHEEL, and NOSE WHEEL of the plane to the TERRAIN in your scenery (if you have multiple terrains you should link all of them).
2- SECOND Link the plane's CRASH DETECTOR to the TERRAIN in your scenery (if you have multiple terrains you should also link all of them), and set the CRASH DETECTOR properties to monitor the terrains.
3- THIRD Select the GROUND VIEW and place it above the terrain, at a location you desired.
THAT'S ALL FOLKS
The Light Airplane is ready to use in your program. You're now ready to go flying. Go to the Quick First Flight section below and follow those instructions below to take a quick flight in your new aircraft.
QUICK FIRST FLIGHT
Follow the instructions below to get aboard and make your first flight.
BOARDING THE AIRPLANE
1- You are probably looking at the airplane from the wherever you set the GROUND VIEW.
Press the O Key to Open the plane's doors.
2- Press the C Key to Climb aboard. You are now in the pilot's seat in the cockpit.
3- Press the A or D Key to pan your view around. The SPACE key will center the view back to forward.
The W and S keys will allow you to pan up and down.
4- You can return to the GROUND VIEW by pressing the G Key, but doing so before closing the doors will effectively
cause the pilot to have exited the aircraft, and you will have to re-enter (C Key) to operate the aircraft controls.
STARTING THE ENGINES
5- First you've got to switch on the battery power, do this with the Y Key. You should see the instrument lights come on
and hear the whir of the avionics.(you can switch the battery off by pressing the LEFT SHIFT/Y Key combination).
Also, the outside nav lights and tail beacon will come on.
6- Confirn that the parking brakes are set by pressing the RIGHT CONTROL Key. Close the cockpit doors with the L Key.
The engines will not power up past idle with the doors open.
7- Now start the engine with the K Key. Keep it down until the engine starts.
If the engine doesn't start right away, stop for 2 to 3 seconds and try again.
8- Press the B Key to turn on the strobe lights, and the N key to turn on the Landing Lights.
You may also press the I Key to turn on the interior cockpit lights if desired.
9- Before we takeoff, lets take a quick look around the outside of the plane.
Press the V Key now for your orbiting external view of the plane, and use the same A and D keys to orbit the plane.
Press the same C Key you used before to return to the cockpit (since the dorrs were closed the pilot is still inside).
BEFORE TAKEOFF
10- Set the Flaps to 10 degrees (takeoff setting) with the F key. Confirm by looking at the flap psoition gauge on the right.
11- Bring the Trim up to takeoff setting with the Z Key so that the Trim Indicator (center) is just a hair above the centerline.
TAKEOFF
12- OK, get ready... place your left hand on the left of the keyboard and your right hand on the right near the arrow keys.
Press the RIGHT CONTROL Key to release the park brakes and press the 4 Key to bring in full power.
13- When you reach 75 knots airspeed press the DOWN ARROW Key to pull back and take off. As soon as you have
positive climb, press the R Key to retract the Flaps.
14- You may have to adjust the trim with the Q or Z Keys as required to keep a slight nose up attitude.
LEVEL FLIGHT
15- When you reach your desired altitude, press the 3 Key for cruise power setting and use the Q or Z Keys to trim for level.
16- The Altimeter (second instrument from the top right) shows your altitude.
The Artificial Horizon (third from the top right) shows your planes orientation.
The Gyro Compass (third from lower left) shows your planes heading by what the little pointer is aimed at.
The VSI shows an approximation of your vertical speed.
17- Turns are made with the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW Keys.
Nose up and down is controlled with the use of the UP and DOWN ARROWS and the trim (Q and Z) Keys.
You can change seats with the F2 (copilot) and F3, F4 Keys (rear passengers). F1 puts you back in pilot's seat
LANDING
18- Prepare for landing by a slight use of the Q key to trim slightly down, and descend to about 1000 feet.
When lined up with the terrain or airport you wish to land at, and at a nominal distance, use the 2 Key
to bring back power and start your final descent. Use the Z Key to trim back a bit to keep the nose from falling
too low. Use the F Key to deploy 10 degrees Flaps at around 75 knots airspeed (far left indicator).
19- Use the trim and the UP/DOWN ARROW Keys to guide the plane down to just above the runway. Keep power at 2.
When just above touchdown, trim back a little (Z Key) and use UP ARROW to flare and hold the nose a little up to land.
20- When on the ground press the 1 KEY to bring back to idle power.
CAUTION - do not land on the nose wheel, keep the nose slightly up on landing.
try not to drop the plane in on landing, but make a nice soft landing flare with 2 power.
not adhering to these cautions will cause the plane to crash.
21- Taxi using a Little 2 and 1 Key toggling. Parking brakes are the LEFT CONTROL Key.
SHUTTING DOWN
22- Shut down the engine with the LEFT SHIFT/K key. Turn off all lights and avionics with LEFT SHIFT/Y.
23- Open the Door with the O Key (doors can't be opened when the engine is running).
EXTRA STUFF
Use the H Key to display the Heads Up Printed Instruments Readout. The LEFT SHIFT/H Key combination will hide it.
Press the J Key to enable your joystick POV to control the view direction. LEFT SHIFT/J sets back keyboard control.
The ENTER Key is the Reset Key. This resets the plane and places it back to it's original spot.
You may change the color of your airplane after the project it is in has been saved at least once by using the LEFT SHIFT/TAB Key combo together (wait a sec for the color change to take effect).
Press SHIFT/LCTRL/F9 to remap the Flight Controls to a joystick controller.
OPTIONAL
You may use the NavBeacon Addon along with this addon to provide a bearing indicator to your landing sites. Just follow the instructions provided with the NavBeacon addon to add an ADF/NDB capability to your plane.
This guide should not under any circumstances be used for real flight operations in a real airplane.
Thanks You for trying out this 3DRAD Addon. I hope you enjoy using it and that you find it usefull enough so that it appears in your game.
Happy Flying!
Be sure to keep an eye open for airports and additional airplane addons to appear in the coming weeks...
